Small and Beautiful
A week ago or so I came across the idea of fabric postcards in Rebecca’s Pocket. Sharon at Inaminuteago provides a beautiful example and many useful links.
Years ago my brother and his best friend went through a phase of mailing each other unwrapped objects–the one that sticks in my mind was the leather glove that arrived intact and unabused by postal bureaucracy.
Although I doubt that I have the skill to produce anything as striking as these, I think I’ll give one of these a try–my sewing machine has been idle for a long time and oddly enough my stash of fabrics, threads, and doodads has continued to grow.

So did you ever make any fabric postcards? They’re lots of fun and a great way to be creative in a short block of time!
I must confess that I’ve stared at my stash of fabric and craft bits and pieces and done zip. I probably need to make it a gift project–it’s more likely to get done that way. The other thing that would help is setting up the machine and cutting boards. And amazingly enough the extra table in my work room is nearly cleared off. So I don’t have a lot of good excuses since I have time, materials, and space. And the ideas won’t come until I start to play around with it.
So who should I make them for–no birthdays coming up. Maybe as random gifts for my nieces and nephew. The girls are at a very girly stage so something pink and sparkly would go over well. And the boy is at the age that he’d be interested if it looked either like Thomas the Tank Engine or like Spider Man.
Hah–the plan is forming–thanks for the reminder.
